Early August on the Big Hole with Ralph and Steve

They wanted to fish the Big Hole. Jack was concerned as the summer was getting pretty hot and flows were dropping but as it turned out, there was plenty of water and by getting on the river early, the fishing was very good. See some of the trout they caught in the photos below. The beauty of the Big Hole is hard to beat.

Late July fishing on the Bitterroot River with Zan

Another great day. Still good flows and this was a big, beautiful trout. He had fun landing it, too. Back in the water quickly and it darted away to deeper water. Thanks Zan for fishing with Wapiti Waters.

Pam Funk on an overnight fishing trip on the Bitterroot

Pam and Jack tossed around a number of different dates for her camping/fishing trip on the Bitterroot but mid-July turned out to be a winner. Jack had such a great time with Pam and I think she had the time of her life in Montana. She has a passion for life and all thing fun, especially water and fishing. Thanks Pam. We hope to be lifelong friends with you. Here are some photos from their trip.

West Fork of the Bitterroot in June

Jeff and his Dad had a great day on this beautiful fork of the Bitterroot. The water was big as you can see in the photo and on the camera lens but I had to post both of the photos. The trout were so beautiful. Hope you like them.

Bitterroot River levels in June 2012

The river is big and fairly fast, but also pretty clear and fishing. Watch out for new hazards such as down Cottonwood trees. Below the charts is a slideshow of photos from the middle Bitterroot on June 11.

May 7 on the Bitterroot River from Angler's Roost

Photos taken from Angler's Roost to Main Street Bridge in Hamilton. The Darby USGS water flow gauge reported 1900 CFS on this day. Clarity was good, caddis hatches prolific but not many feeding trout. Gorgeous day, though.

Cool days fishing on the Bitterroot

Wearing wool and gloves, they still enjoyed the fishing
The last few days in the Bitterroot have been below 50 degrees. Cooler temperatures don't do much for the bugs or hatches but if you are hardy enough, you still hook some trout. Thank Jim, John, Gary and Ric. Hope it is warmer in California. Jack and Nick really enjoyed fishing with you all.

Fishing the Bitterroot - cold weather but good fishing

It was a cold day on the Bitterroot for this sturdy group from San Diego. A dark day makes for dark photos but that was a nice trout Don caught.  Day one of three days. More photos coming I hope.
Jack is holding Don's trout before they released it.

Great September fishing on the Clark Fork River west of Missoula

Trout from the Clark Fork River - beautiful!
This has been a crazy summer for many people for many reasons. Mike fishes with Jack quite a bit each summer. He and his wife have a home in Hamilton. This summer, they had to be out of Montana more than usual. Today, Wapiti Waters floated Mike and some friends on the Clark Fork and you never know how it might fish. They hit it just right. Mike said it was one of the best days he has had on a Montana River. His friend, Jim, thanked Jack for sharing that day on the river with him. They deserved a great day and got it. Thanks to the fishing gods and the recovery of the Clark Fork after removing Milltown Dam.

Shields on the Big Hole and the Blackfoot Rivers in August

Brown trout caught by Jim
Jim and Naomi fished with Jack a few weeks in July. Now these photos are from August when they came back to fish the Big Hole and the Blackfoot rivers. What is great about the Shields is that they have fun no matter what the weather or the fishing have to offer. But, as you can see here, they always catch really nice trout. I have to say either Naomi catches more trout, or Jim takes more photos...not sure which. Jack sure had a good time fishing with them.
