Fly Fishing the Bitterroot River with Jim and Phil

Phil and his Bitterroot rainbow trout
Jim and Phil from Washington, DC came to Montana and fished with Jack on Sept 17 and 18. The Bitterroot was their river of choice and it paid off. There wasn't a lot of time for fishing photos, but here are a few taken from the boat. I am including a few more that I (Merle) took on the morning of first day as they were getting ready to start the day.

  1. I am posting an email comment from Jim after this trip (with his permission).
    Dear Jack & Merle,

Thank you for a great time in Montana. The Bitterroot River is indeed a gorgeous river, flowing crystal clear through land of exquisite beauty. Merle, the lunches you prepared for us were delicious. Having enjoyed your food, I am certain that if Jack were not the busiest of men he would be the fattest. Who could resist coming back for more!

Jack, every word of praise John Edwards said about you is true. You are indeed a superb fishing guide, and you are a great guy to boot. Phil and I enjoyed every minute on the river with you. Thank you for your patience, and your unfailing sense of humor. I have spent enough time in the classroom to recognize the real thing, and you are a born teacher -- knowledgeable, focused, and kind.

If it is not too much trouble, please send the photographs you took of Phil's trout. It was his first ever, and I know he would love to have a photograph of him with his fish.

I hope to book another trip with you next September with my son, David. I would love for him to see the Bitterroot Valley and fish that gorgeous river under the tutelage of a master.

Again, many thanks to both of you for everything you did to make our trip to Montana so memorable. I know that Phil joins me in thanking you and wishing you both much happiness, good health, long life and all good things.

    Merle & Jack,

Thanks for the photos. The fishing, food, scenery and company were all excellent. I'd recommend the experience to anybody - even to novices like me.

    Best Regards,
    Phil
